What types of suspicious offers does PhishBucket track?
Tuesday, 02 September 2008
We do our best to categorize the suspicious offers that are reported to us based on the content of the email, but there are times when an offer seems to fit multiple categories, or we've filed it in Mystery Phish because it's unclear to which other category it should belong.
If you believe an offer has been miscategorized and have information that will help clarify, please use the Report Phish form to let us know.
Bait & Switch Job Offers - Lured with (mass mailed) job offers then solicited with
education, training, and related services instead; subject to (junk) email from their advertisers; usually asked to fill out an online form; job listings are obtained from sites like indeed.com and recruiting letters are sent with links to online forms
Career Services Offers - Offers for training, resume or other
job-related services; includes diploma mills
Money Transfer/Mule Offers - Employment offers involving check, cash, or
wire transfers, also known as advance fee fraud; sometimes spoofing legitimate companies or charities
Mystery PhishOffers - Mysterious or phishy job-related offers that cannot be
more clearly categorized
Online Advertising Job Offers - Offers to make money using online
advertising services such as Google Adwords; piggybacks on known revenue-generating models
Online Auction Job Offers - Offers to make money using online auctions
Online/Mystery Shopper Offers - Employment offers for mystery shoppers
or online shoppers (often asked to evaluate money transfer services)
Pyramid Schemes - Offers identified as questionable pyramid or multi-level marketing
(MLM) schemes
