Standard message headers are easy to spoof. Any text in the To, From, Subject and Date field of a standard email header can be faked to say anything. But full email headers show the true origin of the sender, the route taken to reach you, and how and when the email was sent.
When reporting spam or unsolicited email, sending full email headers will enable investigators to more effectively trace the origin of the sender.
The following Web sites provide detailed instructions on how to obtain email headers from just about every mail client out there, both web-based and those that run on the desktop.
