We heard something today that broke our collective hearts. If you're looking for work, please don't let this happen to you.

We warned you the unemployment situation was going to get scary. People are desperate for work, but corporate America is quickly shrinking. Perhaps the growth in the government will create some public service jobs, but it's not for everybody. Maybe you're on unemployment. So if you were used to earning more than, oh--say $15-20 per hour or more, then you're probably in a lot of financial pain because of the cap on the weekly amount. Last we saw, if you didn't have taxes deducted (thanks a lot, "benefit"), it was somewhere around $500 per week. Or maybe your benefits ran out because you've maxed out and now you've had to go on welfare. Depending on your marital situation and number of kids, it can go from barely able to survive to living in the car. It's no wonder the cupboards are bare, the car got repo'd and the house is in jeopardy (or foreclosure is already a four-letter word). 

It's so bad that a guy in Ellensburg, WA stopped by the neighborhood gas station with his little daughter, pumped some gas, got a coffee and some goodies for her, and proceeded to whip out a gun and demand that the store clerk put it through or he was going to...throw hot coffee in his face.

You thought we were going to say SHOOT, didn't you? Well, he did say if the guy called the cops he'd come back and kill him, but he never did threaten to SHOOT him.

We hope it didn't escape you that he brandished that gun and waved it around with his LITTLE DAUGHTER at his side. He finally put it in his pocket, but not before she caught sight of it. Surveillance video showed a visibly wide-eyed little girl standing an arm's length from her crazy father's trigger finger while he tried to rob the place.

Why? Because he was out of work! Granted, it was a stupid thing to do, with or without his daughter. But that's what the stress of unemployment is doing to some people. Again, please don't let this be you.
